Just after Leon decided to retire racing in 2002, he was contacted by Mr. Wolfgang Srb, head of the motocross department of the F.I.M., asking him if he was interested to perform the CMS academy, under supervision of the F.I.M. This appeared to be a very nice and variegated job.

This job included scouting and training of young talented riders around the world in the age of ten up to sixteen years old and performing in classes up to and including 125cc. In September 2002 Leon started this job with training sessions in Latvia.

Training Sessions:

The size of the group was maximized at twelve riders. These were the best riders from the country. Training lasted three days and consisted of physical training and training with the motorbike. In cooperation with some local coaches, Leon gave training advice and designed training schemes for the different motor categories.

Scouting:

When during these training sessions one of these riders appeared to be a very talented rider, for whom it would be impossible to develop further in his own country, Leon employed his network in the MX-scene. This might open up some opportunities for talented riders to develop further in the field of motocross elsewhere and to work on their MX career.
